My Story | Part 11

Residencies often open doors and rejuvenate an artist. In the next two years I had two solo shows, one which required my creating a new body of work. Using my photographs of architectural facades, I painted, collaged, transferred photographs, and textured another 20 works in a group called “Change Orders.” It didn’t hurt that my husband was trained as an architect and that we have built/remodeled 6 houses with a lot of sweat. It meant I understood construction, loved architecture, and was able to relate the process to how humans attempt to build their life. These were done on a substrate of gypsum that allowed me to press in found objects and build tactile texture. I also used words on the sides of the deep wood panels. “Facade” has transfers of photographs I took in New York City.
