My Story | Part 6
Feb 01, 2022
Fast forward about 10 years, I had remarried, and my husband and I decided to move to the country and start an organic farm (What can I say, we were in our 40’s!). It is actually there that I finally start painting and drawing again. While, there’s not a lot of down time on a farm, without animals to care for, there are the winter months. After viewing a museum retrospective of the late artist Romare Bearden, I decided to try my hand at collage. Wanting to make my own papers, I checked out multiple library books on collage and bought several more. Using watercolors, I created a variety of stains on rice paper that would give my artwork texture. I then tore these papers in strips and put them back together in a different pattern. Finally, I used sewing as line to define some of the edges. “Carolina Colors” was my first piece in a national show.
