Stay On The Path

“Of all the paths you take in life, make sure a few of them are dirt.” John Muir

It is a sign I see at the approach to every trail in the parks: Stay on the Path. It means, of course, please don’t trample the plants, take care of nature and keep it intact. Nevertheless, I always see other trails. Some head off up a slope (or down) possibly a shortcut to join the next part of the trail. Others lead around narrow portions where someone might have been walking too slow for the hikers behind them and still others lead quite obviously just behind a bush. I admit I have been known to use the latter trail and even some of those that lead around puddles. But generally, I stay centered and leave my adventures for the summit. This small piece is mixed media on canvas paper with collage and pencil mounted on board.
