Confinement IV
These small paintings were inspired by the lockdown in our country in March 2020 as we faced an unknown virus. The term confinement has several meanings. At the top of the list is quarantine, restriction, and enclosed or trapped
So many people have had difficulty staying at home during the pandemic, and truly everyone’s situation was different. Those living in apartments with a limited access to the outdoors likely felt trapped or possibly even imprisoned. We walked in neighbors and parks. Then when the campgrounds reopened so many of us began new outdoor adventures. My husband and I were no different though we had always been campers. Now with safe distancing, we had close family joining us and were able to introduce our grandsons to the trails and mountains we loved.
So while confinement certainly denotes boundaries, the term can also suggest “lying in,” a time or quiet, solitude, and anticipation. I believe it’s our choice.
