Hiding Secrets
“If you want to keep a secret, you must also hide it from yourself.” George Orwell
When it came to events in our childhood, my brother and I often remembered things differently. I often wondered was it just memory or perhaps the difference in perspective between an older sibling and a younger one? Or did he know family secrets I could not claim?
We all have secrets—memories we hide from even family or close friends. Sometimes they are secreted away so securely they can change us and distort our view of others and even ourselves. This piece depicts those aspects of secrets that live within all of us, for better or worse. This mixed media collage painting includes acrylic paint, papers, parts of a manipulated photograph, and charcoal pencil.
